Welcome to Promise, a new starter set for Arkham Horror: The Roleplaying Game

2026 / 03 / 04

Bonjour, investigators! It’s Keith Ryan Kappel here, one of the freelance game writers for Edge Studio. Today I’m happy as a gator in the henhouse to announce the next stop on the cross-country tour de force that is the Arkham Horror RPG line—a hidden little place called Promise, Louisiana.

In this all-in-one box up to five players take on the role of brave, skilled investigators in the late 1920’s as they unexpectedly wake up in the gloomy little town of Promise. With their memories as muddy as the bayou outside, the investigators must first figure out how they ended up here in the first place. It soon becomes clear that nefarious forces are at work in this strange southern hamlet, and they will have to unravel the mystery and aid the townspeople if they hope to ever make it home again.

Why a starter set?

A starter set is the perfect introduction to the unique rules and 1920s setting of Arkham Horror: The Roleplaying Game. Whether your players are seasoned table-top role players, have faced Ancient Ones countless times across other Arkham Horror games, or if it’s their very first time at the game table, this starter box offers a unique story and all of the tools you’ll need to get your friends hooked on Arkham Horror

This learn-as-you-play adventure teaches the Dynamic Pool System (DPS) that powers the game and introduces the roaring twenties Lovecraftian horror setting. It comes with the complete Welcome to Promise adventure and a supplemental Rules Appendix, which takes extra care to walk game masters (GMs) and players through their first experience with the DPS rules and offers GMs an easy tool to use as a reference in their future games.

This box is packed full of tons of components to make gameplay smooth and accessible, especially to those who might be more accustomed to traditional board games. Inside you’ll find:

  • The 64-page Welcome to Promise adventure booklet
  • A 16-page rules appendix
  • 5 Investigator Portfolios
  • 18 six-sided dice (12 black and 6 green dice)
  • 3 double-sided poster maps
  • 20 non-playable character profile and dice tracker cards
  • 32 item and injury reminder cards
  • 3 sheets of punchboard tokens
  • 3 evidence handout sheets

Well, that’s all for this announcement, folks. Stay tuned for more articles and teasers for this new addition to the Arkham Horror RPG!, including one comparing the first starter set, Hungering Abyss, and Welcome to Promise.

Oh, and investigators? Don’t you fret about the foggy memories, they’ll likely come back eventually…just keep on keeping on and stay in the blue light. Bonne chance! – Keith Ryan Kappel
